cameron diaz and estranged husband, owen wilson, battle through the difficult adjustment of their son, macauley culkin, when he has difficulty dealing with diaz’s new husband, ben stiller. diaz enlists the help of her father, steve martin, who himself is estranged from diaz’s mother, played by helen mirren.

when adopted daughter emma watson turns up with grandma mirren at the family’s doorstep for christmas, culkin’s obsessions find a new host. spurred on by nosey neighbors, brad pitt and jennifer aniston, culkin seeks love in the most unexpected of places.
